About Us

At the College of West Africa, we are more than just an educational institution. We are a beacon of hope, firmly rooted in the belief of not giving up on Africa. Founded with a vision to provide quality education for the young people of Liberia, our legacy is deeply intertwined with the pioneering spirit of Melville B. Cox, a Methodist missionary whose dedication and sacrifice continue to inspire us.

Our History

Named in memory of Melville B. Cox, our main building stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the people of Africa. The historic stained glass window in our auditorium bears the powerful message: “Though a thousand fall, let not Africa be given up.” Cox’s journey from the United States to Liberia in the early 19th century laid the foundation for our institution’s mission to empower generations of African youth.
